Tips on How to Build Your Self Esteem

If you want to understand how to build self-esteem, the first thing you should understand is what that means. Your self-esteem is the beliefs that you have developed about your strengths and weaknesses (chronic low self-esteem). Self-esteem on the other hand deals with the judgments you have made about yourself and the feelings that correspond with your own value and worth.

As you will notice, self-concept is very much related to self-esteem. A person's viewed competence cognitively, physically, and socially has a great impact on self-esteem. These three areas develop a person's self-competence, therefore determining one's self-esteem.

Cognitive competence deals with how smart you think you are and how well you feel capable of doing things. Physical competence has to do with overall health physically and the way you see yourself as being able to do things. Social competence has to do with friends and how you feel about relating to others.

These three areas are very important when it comes to developing your self-esteem. When you are lacking in one of these areas, it may influence your self-concept in a negative manner. When this happens you are left with low self-esteem.

The best way to fix things like this is to develop the skills within those areas. You have to learn to love yourself and value the worth that you have. When capable of doing that, self-esteem comes.

Face up to the fears you have and try new things. Don't let the things you try be too hard or it could have more of a negative effect than a positive. Do things like talking to people that normally you would not talk to, prove to yourself with small challenges that you are in fact smarter than you thought, and if something bothers you physically go to the doctor, if not, do some exercise and show yourself that you can do it.

It is the small challenges that you give yourself that is the answer on how to build your self-esteem. Small successes build on our self-value and worth. From there, you will start to see and increased self-esteem.
